Remembering Those Who Sacrificed Everything

On May 18, 2024, during a battle in the strategic Toung Hein Taung area of Ann Township, Rakhine Region, a brave comrade from the Student Armed Forces, Arr Paung, fought courageously alongside allied revolutionary forces against the enemy military council troops.

In honor of his sacrifice, a commendation order reading and burial ceremony was held to pay tribute to his bravery and dedication to the revolution.

Kyalsin (Angel), also known by her Chinese name Ting Jia Xi, was a 19-year-old woman from Mandalay, Myanmar. She was a Taekwondo instructor, a champion athlete, and a dancer.

On March 3, 2021, during the anti-military coup protests, she was tragically shot and killed by the junta's security forces.

Kyalsin became one of the first martyrs of the Spring Revolution, and her death became a powerful symbol of resistance against the military regime’s brutality. Her courage and sacrifice, along with those of many other young protesters, continue to inspire Myanmar’s struggle for democracy

Phyo Zeya Thaw was a Burmese politician and former hip-hop singer. He was born on March 26, 1981, in Yangon, Myanmar. His parents were Dr. Myo Thaw, a former rector of the University of Dental Medicine, and Daw Khin May Win. After completing his high school education at Basic Education High School No. 6, Botataung, he enrolled at Yadanabon University in 1999. In 2000, he transferred to the distance education program at Yadanabon University and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English specialization.

Due to his anti-government song lyrics, he was arrested and imprisoned, and Amnesty International recognized him as a prisoner of conscience. On April 1, 2012, he was elected as a Member of Parliament alongside Aung San Suu Kyi. After the 2021 military coup, he was arrested on July 23, 2022, by the military junta under anti-terrorism laws and was executed in Insein Prison. The Council on Foreign Relations, a U.S.-based think tank, included him in its list of 10 notable figures who passed away in 2022.

Kyaw Min Yu (February 13, 1963 – July 23, 2022), also known by his pen name "Phone Thukha," was a Burmese writer and poet. He was also a former political prisoner and a member of the 88 Generation Students Group. Widely recognized by the name "Ko Jimmy," he gained prominence during the 1988 pro-democracy uprising in Myanmar.

Ko Jimmy first became involved in student protests on March 16, 1988. Due to his activism during the 8888 Uprising, he was imprisoned for 16 years, from 1988 to 1996. Later, in August 2007, he was arrested again for participating in protests against fuel price hikes alongside the 88 Generation Students Group, resulting in another five-year prison sentence. He was released on January 13, 2012.

Following the military coup in Myanmar in 2021, he was initially not among the first detainees. However, on February 13, 2021, the military junta issued an arrest warrant against him under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. On October 23, 2021, he was arrested at a house in North Dagon Township, Yangon. Reports indicated that he was beaten upon arrest and taken to an interrogation center.

On July 23, 2022, more than a year after the coup, the military junta executed Ko Jimmy inside Insein Prison, charging him with violating anti-terrorism laws.

He was born in Yangon in 1988 to famous musicians, songwriter and singer Saw Khu Sae, and singer Khine Myat Mon. His childhood name was Tutt Pyi, and he had one younger sister. His parents separated when he was young, and he was raised by his mother.

Following the 2021 coup, due to his prominent involvement in urban protests, he was charged under Section 505 (b) for inciting public unrest and was arrested. He later joined revolutionary forces in the areas of liberated zones.

On the morning of June 23, 2021, he suddenly passed away due to a ruptured abdominal aneurysm. He was only 32 years old at the time of his death.

On March 10, 2015, he was sentenced to over a year of imprisonment in Thayarwaddy Prison. He was also a member of the Monya Poets Association.

After the 2021 coup in Myanmar, he participated in anti-coup protests in Monya.On March 3, during a protest near the Pagoda Ni Shrine on Union Road in Monya, the military opened fire on the crowd, and he was fatally shot in the head, dying from the injury."
